Ingredients:

  • For the crust:
    • 2 cups all-purpose flour
    • 1/2 cup cold water
    • 1/2 cup olive oil
    • 1 tsp salt

  • For the filling:
    • 1/2 lb chorizo sausage, sliced
    • 1/2 lb Serrano ham, diced
    • 4 eggs, hard-boiled and sliced
    • 1/2 tsp paprika
    • Salt and pepper to taste

Preparation:

1. Prepare the Crust

In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt. Gradually add the water and olive oil, mixing until a dough forms. Knead the dough on a floured surface until smooth. Cover with plastic wrap and let it rest for 30 minutes.

Temperature: Room temperature

Time: 30 minutes

2. Prepare the Filling

In a skillet, cook the chorizo sausage and Serrano ham over medium heat until browned. Remove from heat and let it cool. In a bowl, mix the cooked meats with the paprika, salt, and pepper.

3. Assemble the Hornazo

Preheat your oven to 350°F (180°C). Divide the dough in half and roll out each half into a circle. Place one circle of dough on a greased baking sheet. Layer the sliced hard-boiled eggs on top of the dough, then add the meat mixture. Top with the second circle of dough and crimp the edges to seal.

Temperature: 350°F (180°C)

4. Bake the Hornazo

Brush the top of the pie with a beaten egg for a shiny finish. Make a few slits in the top crust to allow steam to escape. Bake in the preheated oven for 40-45 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown.

Time: 40-45 minutes

Once the Hornazo de Salamanca is done baking, let it cool slightly before slicing and serving. This delicious traditional Spanish dish is best enjoyed warm with a side of fresh greens or a crisp glass of wine. Discover the flavors of Salamanca with this mouthwatering recipe!
