Master the Art of Confit: Elevate Your Cooking Skills with Naranjas Confitadas con Olla GM
Confit is a traditional French cooking technique that involves slowly cooking food in fat or sugar at low temperatures. It’s a process that results in tender, flavorful dishes that are perfect for elevating your cooking skills. In this recipe, we’ll be making Naranjas Confitadas, or candied oranges, using an Olla GM pressure cooker. These sweet and tangy treats can be enjoyed on their own or used to add a burst of flavor to desserts and savory dishes.
Ingredients:
- 4 large oranges
- 2 cups of sugar
- 2 cups of water
- Cinnamon stick
- Star anise
- Cloves
Preparation:
Step 1: Prepare the Oranges
Wash the oranges thoroughly to remove any dirt or pesticides. Slice the oranges into thin rounds, about 1/4 inch thick.
Step 2: Make the Syrup
In the Olla GM pressure cooker, combine the sugar, water, cinnamon stick, star anise, and cloves. Stir well to dissolve the sugar.
Cooking time: 5 minutes
Step 3: Add the Oranges
Place the orange slices into the syrup mixture in the pressure cooker. Make sure they are submerged in the liquid.
Cooking time: 15 minutes
Step 4: Pressure Cook
Close the lid of the pressure cooker and set it to high pressure. Cook the oranges for 20 minutes to allow them to become tender and absorb the flavors of the syrup.
Cooking time: 20 minutes
Step 5: Release Pressure
Once the cooking time is up, release the pressure from the cooker according to the manufacturer’s instructions. Be careful when handling the hot steam.
Step 6: Reduce the Syrup
Remove the orange slices from the pressure cooker and set them aside. Turn on the sauté function of the Olla GM and simmer the syrup until it thickens and becomes syrupy.
Cooking time: 10 minutes
Step 7: Finish and Serve
Once the syrup has thickened, return the orange slices to the pressure cooker and stir gently to coat them in the syrup. Let them cool before serving.
These Naranjas Confitadas can be enjoyed on their own as a sweet treat, or used to garnish cakes, tarts, or even savory dishes like roasted meats. They add a burst of citrus flavor and a touch of sweetness to any dish, making them a versatile and delicious addition to your culinary repertoire.
